Our city guides cover local uses, planning and delivery for portable cabins and container buildings, with prices from the same catalogue.
The same cabins go to every city in Great Britain by crane lorry. What changes from city to city is access, planning and the weather, so here is what to plan for, region by region.
Wherever you are, the process is the same: send an inquiry, receive a written quote with a drawing by email, and the cabin arrives by crane lorry.
| Region | Cities | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Scotland | Aberdeen, Inverness, Perth, Stirling, Glasgow | Scottish planning and building standards; roofs designed for an 80 kg/m² snow load |
| North of England | Durham, Liverpool, Chester, Leeds | Historic centres in Durham and Chester; busy city-centre sites with tight access |
| Midlands | Birmingham, Lincoln, Hereford, Worcester | Cathedral quarters and conservation areas; flat-pack for sites a lorry cannot reach |
| East and South of England | Ely, Chichester, Bath, Truro | Bath is a World Heritage city; permanent cabins usually need planning |
Prices are to buy, ex works, + VAT. Delivery is quoted for your postcode in your written quote. The containers have insulated sandwich-panel walls and roof and PVC double-glazed windows, and every cabin carries a 12-month warranty against manufacturing and assembly faults.

City sites are tight. The cabin arrives on a lorry with its own crane (HIAB), which needs a clear approach, firm ground for its stabiliser legs and no overhead cables near the lift. A lift from a public road may need a permit or a parking suspension from the council, so give us the exact spot early.
Where the lorry cannot reach, choose flat-pack: the cabin arrives as panels and a bolted galvanised steel frame, and is assembled where it will stand. See flat pack cabins.
The base should be firm and level — a concrete slab or level pads — and an electrician connects the incoming supply.

In a city, a cheap used shipping container can look like the quick answer. It was built to carry cargo, not people: bare steel walls run with condensation in winter, every window and door has to be cut into the shell, and a used box arrives with dents, rust and an unknown history.
Our building containers are made for people from the start. The galvanised steel frame is bolted, not welded, the walls have a U-value of 0.46 W/m²K, and each one arrives glazed, lit and wired, with a 12-month warranty. Our products are used in over 140 countries — see containers for the full range.
Temporary cabins that support building work are generally allowed while the work lasts. A permanent office, classroom or store usually needs planning permission, and historic centres such as Bath, Chester, Durham and Lincoln have conservation areas where appearance matters. We supply drawings for any application.
In England, a detached building under 15 m² with no sleeping accommodation is usually exempt from the Building Regulations; 15–30 m² is usually exempt if it is at least 1 m from a boundary or built mainly of non-combustible materials. Scotland has its own building standards system, so check with the council whether a building warrant is needed.
