Building containers, not used shipping containers

Search for containers for sale and most results are used shipping boxes: corrugated steel with no insulation, no windows and a cargo history you can't check. Ours are different. Each of our containers is built as a building from day one — a bolted galvanised steel frame, insulated sandwich-panel walls and roof, PVC double-glazed windows, and lights and sockets fitted at the factory.

That difference shows on the first cold morning. A bare steel box runs with condensation unless it is lined and insulated, and every window or door you add means cutting and reinforcing the steel. With a shipping container office you add all of that yourself — and the box is still only 2.44 m wide outside.

Container sizes and prices

Every price below is ex works, + VAT, for a new unit. Delivery by crane lorry is quoted for your postcode in your written quote. Add a size to your quote basket and send an inquiry.

The 3 × 7 m is our most-built size: 21 m² of open floor at 2.64 m high. The 2.4 × 6 m unit keeps to a standard 20ft transport footprint, and the 3 × 4 m and 3 × 5 m units make a compact container cabin for a small office or store.

Need something else? Container footprints are built from 3 × 4 m to 3 × 12 m and from 4 × 4 m to 4 × 12 m, and several units can be combined into larger offices, canteens and camps. We price these in your written quote and send a drawing.

Container office layouts and uses

A container office is the quickest way to add a warm, lockable workspace to a yard, depot, farm or building site. The 3 × 7 m shell comes in three standard layouts, each shown on the drawing we send with your quote.

The same unit also works as a canteen, drying room, first-aid room or store. For construction projects see our site cabins; for somewhere to live see portable houses.

  • Open plan, 3 × 7 m (£4,290 + VAT): one 21 m² room for desks, a canteen or a training room.
  • Office with WC, 3 × 7 m (£4,890 + VAT): an office plus a toilet, plumbed on the surface — the site office favourite.
  • Two rooms and a central WC, 3 × 7 m (£5,190 + VAT): a manager's office and a meeting room, or two rooms of accommodation.
  • 20ft container office, 2.4 × 6 m (£3,490 + VAT): a standard transport footprint for sales offices, canteens and stores.

How our containers are built

Every unit is built the same way: a galvanised steel frame that is bolted, not welded, clad with insulated sandwich panels. Because the frame is bolted, a container can be taken apart, moved and rebuilt many times, and the materials are 100% recyclable.

Standard walls are 50 mm EPS sandwich panels, with PUR panels as an upgrade for more insulation. Where fire performance matters — close to a boundary or another building, for example — ask for rock-wool panels. Cladding, colours and extra windows are options confirmed in your written quote.

  • Frame: galvanised steel, bolted — can be dismantled and re-used
  • Walls: 50 mm EPS sandwich panel, U-value 0.46 W/m²K; PUR or rock-wool options
  • Roof: 125 mm EPS, U-value 0.26 W/m²K, designed for an 80 kg/m² snow load
  • Floor: 2 mm PVC vinyl on 14 mm cement board, rated for 200 kg/m²
  • Windows: PVC, double glazed, 90° opening
  • Finish: RAL 9002 electrostatic powder-coated steel; metal parts in RAL 1019

Container cost: what changes the price

Size and layout set most of the cost. On a 3 × 7 m unit, adding a WC takes the price from £4,290 to £4,890 + VAT, and the two-room layout with a central WC is £5,190 + VAT. After that, the price moves with the items below. We confirm what is possible for your unit in your written quote and itemise each one on your written quote.

If you only need space for a few weeks, hire may suit. For anything longer, compare hire charges with the purchase price: a container you own can move to your next site, be extended, or be sold on.

  • Insulation: standard EPS, PUR panels for a warmer unit, or rock-wool panels where fire performance matters.
  • Openings: extra windows or a second door.
  • Fit-out: heating, kitchen units and partitions.
  • Delivery: assembled or flat-packed, priced for your postcode.
  • On site: the base and the final power, water and drainage connections, which local trades complete to our drawing.

Delivery, base and planning

Assembled containers travel on a lorry with its own crane (HIAB) and are lifted straight onto your base, so most are in place and ready quickly. The lorry needs firm access and no overhead cables near the lift. Flat-packed units stack, so several travel on one lorry — useful for camps and remote sites.

The base should be firm and level: a concrete slab or concrete pads. An electrician connects the supply, and units with a WC also need water and drainage.

Planning depends on use. Temporary containers on a construction site during the works often need no separate permission; a permanent container office, or one at a public frontage, may. Ask us when you request a quote.

Questions buyers ask us

How much does a container office cost?

From £3,490 + VAT for a 2.4 × 6 m (20ft) container office and £4,290 + VAT for an open-plan 3 × 7 m. A 3 × 7 m with a WC is £4,890 + VAT. Delivery is quoted for your postcode.

Are these shipping containers?

No. They are new, purpose-built insulated containers with a bolted galvanised frame, sandwich-panel walls and roof, double-glazed windows, lights and sockets. They are made to be offices and site buildings, not to carry cargo.

What sizes of container do you sell?

Standard sizes are 3 × 4 m, 3 × 5 m, 2.4 × 6 m, 3 × 6 m and 3 × 7 m, all 2.64 m high. Made-to-order footprints run from 3 × 4 m to 3 × 12 m and from 4 × 4 m to 4 × 12 m.

How is a container delivered?

Assembled, on a lorry with its own crane that lifts it onto your base — usually ready quickly. Units can also travel flat-packed and stacked on one lorry for remote sites or larger orders.

Is a container office warm in winter?

Standard walls have a U-value of 0.46 W/m²K and the roof 0.26 W/m²K, and PUR panels are available for colder sites. Our winter warmth calculator shows what heating your unit needs.

Do I need planning permission for a container?

Temporary containers on a construction site during the works often don't; permanent units, or ones at a public frontage, may. Check with your local council; we can supply drawings for an application.

Can a container have a toilet?

Yes. The 3 × 7 m container office with WC is £4,890 + VAT and the two-room layout with a central WC is £5,190 + VAT. Both are plumbed on the surface, ready to connect to water and drainage.

What warranty do containers have?

12 months against manufacturing and assembly faults. Production is ISO 9001:2015 and CE certified.
